Changing Stationery, One Envelope at a Time

I had the opportunity, and spare cash, to print out the envelopes I've been creating in Photoshop. It's exciting to see them come to life off of the computer. Some things work and some things don't but I've been really happy with how every single one looks printed out! I had to tweak my template a bit as I noticed that there is the tiniest gap on the first template. It's really nice knowing that I have about 30 envelopes ready for letters! I'll always love putting glue to paper but doing collages digitally offers something a bit more. I love that I can manipulate and use the same image over and over if I want to. It's so much fun to figure out the different ways I can manipulate the images.

These are just a few designs I've made. There is an OfficeMax right across the street from my job which makes it easy to pop in an print out some envelopes. OfficeMax's printer quality is much better than the FedEx Office across the street from my apartment. I printed all my envelopes on 32lb laser paper. It has a really nice feel to it and I think it's the right thickness for folding and holding up through the postal system!

Now I just have to get some decent glue. I always buy cheap glue sticks from the dollar store. They do the job but I noticed on this paper, as it's a bit more smooth than regular printer paper, it's easier to just peel apart the glued bits after it has dried. I might try out rubber cement now that I know how to use it properly! Any suggestions? I wish I could get my hands on the glue that is used for commercial envelopes. Those beasts are impossible to peel apart!

  1. Have you tried tape rollers and glue dots. That stuff is hard to get apart! For a great seal I use the Elmer glue sticks and a swipe of a tape runner.
