Mail Call

Every day I opened my mailbox this week, a lovely letter or postcard was hanging out inside waiting for me! Well, except for yesterday due to the blizzard. I even received a letter from a lovely Sendsomething lady who I sent a postcard to in May of last year. I'm telling you, 2013 is the year for mail.

Soon enough I will be posting my weekly received mail on Saturdays. I don't really have an opinion on Saturday delivery being cut in the United States. I am kind of on the side of "if it's going to save them money, so be it." I'm happy with having an extra day to catch up on replies :) Do you have any thoughts on the USPS ending Saturday delivery? If your from another country, how many days a week does your postal system deliver mail? I'm under the impression that a lot of other countries don't have Saturday delivery.

  1. Hi Tara! There is no Saturday delivery in Canada. I realize this is slightly evil of me to admit but when I heard that USPS was stopping Saturday delivery, I actually thought, "A-HA! Join us sad, lonely Canadians who only get mail delivery 5 times a week...." :) *evil*

    1. The USPS must have known you were jealous of our Saturday deliveries so they decided to stop them. Haha. It's all your fault.

How long has the Canadian post been delivering only Monday-Friday?

  2. We get post on Saturday here! I guess if they cut it it'd make Monday a more mail-y day? I'm not sure, but I do know that I HATE Sundays when there's no post! (I love your little washing-lines of post too!)

    1. I hope Mondays will be filled with mail after August! It would be nice to get mail every single day all of the time but I think I might get overwhelmed! I like having at least one day off to catch up and make sure I've logged and taken pictures of everything (I may be a little crazy).

Hope you don't lose your Saturday post any time soon.

    1. It will definitely take some getting used to! I have times on Sunday where I go to check my mailbox; I imagine I will be doing that more often on Saturdays!

  4. At least the post offices will be open Saturday and my mail person said the PO boxes will not be affected by this. By the way Tara, I forgot a few things so expect another thing in the post this week.

    1. I'm happy that they are keeping the post offices open, hope they don't have to cut too many jobs. Very cool that they are still delivering to the PO boxes! Makes sense. My grandparents, who were mail carriers for the past 5+ years, always wondered why you have to pay for a PO box but home delivery is free. I wonder if there will ever come a time where they have to consider doing the opposite.

  5. Here in Finland there is no saturday deliveries. They ended in 1974. Only (expensive) express deliveries are shippes on saturdays too. Otherwise mail is delivered from monday to friday, before 4 p.m, mine is delivered aroun 3 p.m. Some post offices are open from monday to sunday, usually the ones that are run buy grocery stores, but many post offices are open only from monday to friday, so no packages on weekends either.

    1. I'm surprised they got rid of Saturday delivery so long ago in Finland! I assume you guys have UPS/Fedex as well? Do you know if they deliver on Saturdays? The USPS is still keeping package deliveries on Saturdays although I'm sure they will have to cut that at some point in the future as well.

  6. Mail from Mondays to Fridays here in Belgium too. The postoffices are open on Saturday morning and you can buy stamps in several supermarkets, so if they are open on Sundays, you can get stamps all week long. I don't know if you can leave your mail on Sundays too though.

    1. Interesting! In the United States, the post offices aren't open on Sundays but you can still go inside of them to access a PO box if you have one as well as drop off mail (obviously wouldn't get delivered until Monday). Do you know how long the Belgium post hasn't been delivering on Saturday? Does your postal system have an online website where you can purchase stamps? I hardly ever go to a post office to purchase stamps, the USPS has all of their designs available online (and shipping is only $1!)
