LetterMo Day 11

Every day this week I am writing letters to people that I know in "real life" - old coworkers, family, and friends back in Vegas. As I mentioned awhile ago, I posted on Facebook about LetterMo and if any of my friends wanted a letter they had to give me their address. I received quite a few responses and I hope that my letters strike some interest in them to send their own. I'm pretty sure none of them read my blog so I won't be blurring out any names.

When I worked at Office Max I often brought letters with me to work since our store was in the same complex as a post office. Kayla was always intrigued by my envelopes and she was the first person to send me her address. I have to admit, it was a bit weird writing to someone that isn't a stranger! It is a lot easier for me to write the first letter to someone who I have never met before.

Do you write letters to your family, friends or coworkers? I send postcards here and there but never letters. I hope to get more in a habit of writing letters to these lovely people in my life at least once a month.

  1. Last year I did a similar thing and recieved 10 people to write to. I often send notes to my friends and family, I wrote them monthly long before I found the online letter community. I have to say, they actually preferred me not having pen pals, because I expect them to respond now.

    1. I think my biggest problem with writing to my family/friends is that they do not reply! It's weird to write a letter and ask a bunch of questions that I know they will not respond to but it is even weirder to write a letter with no questions! Haha.

  2. I send letters to my Auntie Pat, but we never speak on the phone and she lives far away, so that is really the only way we communicate. I wrote to my MeMe until she stopped writing me back {she said she would write when she felt better, but she has dementia and she doesn't know she won't ever "feel better"}. Now, all of her mail comes to my house, so in order to write to her I would need to personally deliver the mail to her mailbox. My other Granny would never bother to write back, although she certainly could. I would say that I write to almost everyone I know in real life at least once a year by way of card, post card, or short note. Some more because I know they love it even though they don't reply, but out of my actual blood relatives only two people get "real" letters. One lives in Hawaii, and one is my Beloved Auntie Pat.

    1. You are a lot better than I! It seems kind of pointless but I also like to do it because I know they will appreciate it. I have such a hard time finding motivation to write to people who I know won't respond.

  3. I write out of state family, but am with the others, I don't hear back much/from most. I've learned not to ask questions most the time, that way it's not odd to not get answers. It is a little odd writing "into a void" but I assume they enjoy getting mail like I do, plus it helps me feel more connected with them/miss them less to write a letter than just text or something. Personally, other than children who wrote me because they received a shoe-box gift I sent through Operation Christmas Child, I've never really written to someone I don't know or exchanged letters in the traditional sense of send a letter, wait to get one back, reply, repeat.

    1. I think that is the thing to remember - everyone loves getting mail! I shouldn't be so selfish :)

I'm sorry to hear you never had a true pen pal! I hope that changes for you soon. It is a lot of fun!
